Called the "Iron Man" by his coaches and teammates, Minessale played the entire 60 minutes during most of his football career at Milwaukee State Teachers College. He was honorary captain for the 1949 season and helped the team in 1946 go undefeated in conference games and win the Southern Division Championship. In the championship game, Minnessale caught a pass from quarterback Don Hagie against Oshkosh to win the game with just thirty seconds left in play. In 1950 he received the lt. William Aynes Service Award. Minnessale was also a member of the M Club and Delta Sigma Kappa.
