SERVICES

First Year Student-Athlete Support
All new student-athletes meet with their advisors on an individual basis to assess specific needs throughout their first semester at UWM. Freshman student-athletes are required to enroll in Ed Psy 102: Success in Academics and Athletics, a student-athlete only class that prepares them for their careers at UWM.

Facilities
The Academic Enhancement Center, located in the Pavilion 144, provides student-athletes with a quiet place to study, meet with their athletics advisor, and access computers and printing resources. Along with a computer lab, the center houses numerous study rooms. The facility is open during traditional business hours, along with night and weekend hours.

Priority Registration
Student-athletes receive priority when registering for classes over the general student population. This benefit allows student-athletes to schedule their courses around practice, competition, and travel to avoid as many conflicts between school and athletic responsibilities as possible.

Academic Monitoring
Freshman and transfer student-athletes are required to meet with their academic advisor throughout the semester to monitor academic progress. Progress reports to be filled out by instructors are issued to ALL student-athletes periodically throughout the semester.

Structured Study
All incoming freshman student-athletes are required to participate in structured study hall.  Continuing student-athletes can be required to participate in structured study hall based on the discretion of their respective coaching staff and athletics academic advisor. The structure varies based on the student-athletes' level of academic preparation and grade point average. Structured study hall is intended to create a productive work environment that prioritizes task completion and course progress.

Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction
Tutoring services are available primarily through the Student Success Center (SSC) and The UWM Writing Center. Student-athletes can make tutoring, writing center, and supplemental instruction appointments online or in person. Athletics academic advisors work closely with the SSC and the Writing Center to ensure effective use of the resources.
