Track & Field Heads Into Final Weekend Before League Championships

MILWAUKEE - The Milwaukee track & field teams will be in action for the final time before the Horizon League Championships with two meets this Weekend. The Panthers will be competing at Wisconsin's Badger Challenge, and the Jim Green Invitational hosted by Kentucky.
 
The Badger Challenge will be a one-day meet held on Friday at McClimon Track Complex in Madison. The day will start off will field events at 1:00 p.m., with action on the track getting underway at 3:10 p.m.
 
 The Jim Green Invitational will run through both Friday and Saturday, at UK Outdoor Track & Field Complex in Lexington, Ky. Field events on Friday will get going at 1:30 p.m. (CT), with running events to follow at 3:30 p.m. (CT). Competition Saturday will begin at 11:00 a.m. (CT) both on the track and in the field.
 
WOMEN'S LAST TIME OUT
 
Milwaukee's women had a tremendous day at last Saturday's Fighting Illini Twilight, with six top-10 all-time performances in program history at the meet.
 
Katie Burns in the 400m dash was among them, shooting up to second place on the school's leaderboard with a runner-up finish at 54.72.
 
Burns also joined forces with Angelica Refinski, Isabel Roloff, and Victoria Evtimov to post the second best 4x100m relay time in school history at 46.13.
 
The 100m hurdles were a big event for the squad as well, Natalie Block led the way with a time of 13.73. Following right behind was Anna Szepieniec coming in at 13.86 to move her new career best to fifth all-time in the event.
 
In the triple jump, Morgan Pilate had a huge personal-best mark of 12.40m to help her climb to sixth place in the all-time rankings in the event.
 
Hailey Soriaga kept up the theme by clearing 3.67m in the pole vault to tie herself for seventh on the program leaderboard.
 
Moving up to eighth in the 3000m steeplechase was Sara Jochims, finishing the race in 11:22.87.
 
Anelise Egge improved her career best in the 1500m run that ranks her third all-time at 4:29.03.
 
At UW-Whitewater's Drake Alternative on Thursday, Milwaukee got first-place performances from Kallie Volk in the 100m hurdles (14.68), and Taylor Thimmesch in the 400m dash (58.45).
 
MEN'S LAST TIME OUT
 
The Panther men were led at the Fighting Illini Twilight by Jaelyn Reeves-Lile moving up to second on the program's all-time leaderboard in both the 100m and 200m dashes.
 
Reeves-Lile started in the 100m dash, blazing across the finish in 10.35 to win the event, before taking third in the 200m dash at 20.90.
 
Josh Cygan was the headliner in the field, earning Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week for his discus throw of 52.73m. His throw was at the top of the field in the event and bumped him up to fifth all-time in the event.
 
Also managing to crack the school's all-time top-10 was Will Whiteis, who record a second place in the 5000m run, taking over the tenth spot with a time of 14:41.24.
 
Divine Aniamaka picked up another victory for Milwaukee, leaping 14.97m in the triple jump.
 
UP NEXT
 
After this weekend, the Panthers will set their sights on the Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships taking place from May 9-11 at Farmers National Bank Field in Youngstown, Ohio.
