Men's Track & Field Adds Two Conference Titles on Day Two of Horizon League Championships

May 10, 2025

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Milwaukee men's track & field team completed the second day of action at the Horizon League Championships Saturday. The Panthers were highlighted by individual titles from Liam Richards in the decathlon, and Anthony Buford in the long jump.

Richards finished the event with 7,038 points, improving his career best that ranks second in school history. Today he placed first in the 110m hurdles (15.36), discus (42.59), and pole vault (4.20m) to help him run away with the top spot.

"It was a big day two for Liam capturing his second decathlon title, and also coming back to qualify for the finals in the 110m hurdles." Said head coach Andrew Basler.

Buford put the finishing touches on an outstanding debut season in the long jump, reaching 7.39m to separate from the field. He later put himself through to the finals in the 400m dash, coming around in 49.98.

"Anthony had a great jump to wrap up the championship in long jump," Basler continued. "He was also able to follow that up by qualifying for the finals in the 400m dash."

On the track, Jaelyn Reeves-Lile set a new league championship meet record in the 200m dash, with the top qualifying time of 21.01. He also had the fastest preliminary round time in the 100m dash, flying across the finish in 10.40.

"Jaelyn was impressive in both his races today," Basler added. "He showed the conference he's the one to beat in the 100m and 200m."

Iyimi Fagbamiye led a group of three Milwaukee qualifiers in the prelims of the 110m hurdles, finishing in 14.35. Joining Fagbamiye in the finals will be Richards (14.97), and Ethan Mitchell (15.12).

Posting a new career best in the 800m run prelims was Lucas Picco, who cracked the 10th spot in the program's all-time leaderboard with the second-best qualifying time of 1:51.81.

As a team, Milwaukee sits in second place after day two with 50 points.

"Day two was a big day for us," Basler finished saying. "The men are performing above their projection and will be looking to chase some hardware tomorrow."

The Panthers will return tomorrow for the third and final of the action at Farmers National Bank Field in Youngstown, Ohio. Field events held tomorrow will be the hammer throw, high jump, triple jump, and men's pole vault starting at 9:00 a.m. (CT).
