Men's Swim & Dive Celebrates "Senior Day" With Big Win Over Green Bay

MILWAUKEE- The Milwaukee men's swimming & diving team returned to action on Saturday, hosting Green Bay for "Senior Day". The Panthers made sure their seniors left happy with an impressive win, 200-92.5.
 
"The senior meet is always a special one" said head coach Kyle Clements, "starting the meet recognizing and acknowledging all those men and women that have worked so hard over the past years makes this one of my favorite meets."
 
The highlight of the day was a new Klotsche Center record in the 800 freestyle relay, as the team of Jay Jensen, Charlie House, Jackson Ahrens, and Gunnar Seversen finished in 6:41.82, a 13-second improvement on the previous record.
 
"Once we got racing the fast swims started coming." Clements continued.
 
The wins kept coming as the Panthers got first-place finishes in 12 of the 16 events, with five athletes taking home wins on the day.
 
Jensen was one senior who made the most of his last home meet, after his part in the 800 relay he cruised to a top finish in the 200 freestyle at 1:44.40.
 
Seversen also had an outstanding day as an individual, winning the 1000 freestyle (9:25.09), as well as the 500 freestyle (4:40.32) to continue his stellar freshman campaign.
 
The breaststroke events were dominated by Andrew Jones, who started by finishing the 100 in 57.40, then moving to the 200, where he touched the wall first in 2:09.58.
 
Moving to the diving boards, Ben Stitgen scored 300.30 on the 3m, before picking up another win on the 1m with a score of 274.95. Will Francis came up in second for both events, scoring a 244.88 on the 3m, and a 261.75 on the 1m.
 
Milwaukee also picked up a win in the 200 medley relay, reaching the finish in 1:31.59.
 
"This part of the season is all about fine tuning and getting ready for the final meet" Clements concluded, "we have come a long way this season and I look forward to seeing how it all ends."
 
The meet was the final at Klotsche Natatorium for seniors; Jackson Ahrens, Vince Chiappetta, Hayden Christiansen, Nicholas Klenner, Victor Kostov, Ben Lorenz, Kevin Soltys, Ben Stitgen, and Braden Walters.

Milwaukee will be back on Friday, Jan. 31 at 5:00 p.m. when they hit the road to take on Stevens Point.
