Seversen Breaks School Record at Wisconsin Showcase

Panthers win nine events in season opener

October 18, 2026

BROWN DEER, Wis. - Gunnar Seversen kicked off the season in grand fashion Saturday afternoon, shattering the school record for quickest time in the 200 individual medley at the Wisconsin Showcase.

The Woodbury, Minn. native turned in a time of 1:48.05, breaking Patrick Kelley's (2020) previous record of 1:48.84, to earn gold.

Seversen accounted for three of the nine first-place finishes for the Milwaukee men's swim & dive program Saturday, as the Panthers went on to win the Wisconsin Showcase with 1,768.5 points as a unit. The junior notched victories in the 500 freestyle and the 400 individual medley to cap off a successful start to the season.

Milwaukee began the event with a victory in the 200 medley relay with the combination of Sam Lorenz, Larry Rattler, Logan Beebe and Charlie House. The four completed the race in 1:30.16, good for the seventh fastest time in program history.

Jamison Gray tallied his first win of the year in the 200 freestyle, covering the distance in 1:41.74.

Macyn Sawall, Owen Huynh and Josh Carroll took over the top-3 in the 100 backstroke. Sawall paced the Panthers in the pool, finishing the event in 50.94 seconds.

After a strong 2025-26, House continued to thrive, placing first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.99. It was more of the same for Jean Ducastel in the 200 backstroke, who won the event by nearly two seconds.

To wrap up the day, William Francis was the final winner for Milwaukee, emerging as the top performer in three-meter diving. Francis totaled 253.65 points in his season debut.

"We are really pleased with how today went," head coach Kyle Clements said. "It gives us a good idea on where we are, and what we need to do moving forward."

The Panthers will return to competition Saturday, Oct. 31, at the UIC Triangular. The meet is slated to start at 11:00 a.m. CT, as Milwaukee will battle against IU Indy and host UIC at the Flames Natatorium.
