CHICAGO –
Zac Schmidt set a new program record in the 300m dash today as Milwaukee's men's track and field team competed at the Badgers Midwest Invite, hosted by Wisconsin in Chicago.
Schmidt finished the 300m dash in fourth place with a time of 34.60 seconds, beating the previous record of 34.62 seconds set in 2015 by former Panther Marquis Johnson. Also putting his name in the 300m record list was
Dane Nelson, who recorded a seventh-place finish and a time of 35.05 seconds. Nelson also placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.13 seconds.
"We traveled around 75 athletes, so it was great seeing the fuller team competing," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "We had highlights in all the event areas, and I feel like the overall energy of the team was great."
Anthony Campbell won the high jump by clearing a height of 2.09m, beating his previous PR and moving up to sixth on the Milwaukee leaderboards. The 2.09m mark puts him at the top spot in the conference and 50
th in the country.
Divine Aniamaka placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 14.95m, moving up the Milwaukee leaderboards to a tie for third all-time. He sits at second in the conference and 48
th in the country. The first-year Panther lost only to his older brother, Praise, in the event.
Lucas PIcco placed second in the 800m run with a time of 1:55.42, moving him up to second in the conference.
Golden Cotton placed second in the 60m dash, crossing the finish line in 6.85 seconds.
Milwaukee's 4x400m relay team consisting of
Harper Fahey,
Dylan Longworth,
Gavin Czarnecki, and Picco recorded a second-place finish with a time of 3:34.33.
"We're excited to be at home next Saturday for the Tierney Classic," Basler commented. "We will be looking to build upon the success from this meet."
The Panthers are back in action next weekend, hosting the 11
th annual Tierney Classic on January 20
th. The event is scheduled for a tentative 10 a.m. start in the Klotsche Center.
