Szepieniec Breaks School Long Jump Record at Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Open

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee track & field teams competed in the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Open in Louisville, Ky., at the Cardinal Track Stadium Friday.
 
The highlight of the day came from Anna Szepieniec, who crushed the school record in the long jump. The junior, who set the Milwaukee indoor long jump record earlier this season, registered a 6.35-meter leap at the meet in Louisville, Ky., to finish second. Her mark breaks Samia Taylor's 6.13-meter effort that was set in 2013.
 
In javelin, Kallie Volk recorded a sixth-place finish with her personal-best 37.72-meter throw. Volk currently ranks fifth in the program record books for the event. Szepieniec also competed in the event, throwing 29.61 meters.
 
Rachel Helm turned in a 12th-place effort in the 800-meter dash, crossing the line in 2:15.62.
 
Racing in the 400-meter hurdles was Victoria Spagnola, who finished the race 15th with a personal-best outing of 1:02.96. Brooke Crosby added a time of 1:06.15 in the event.
 
In the 200-meter dash, Katie Burns came out as the top finisher for the Black & Gold, clocking a time of 24.45. Not far behind was Victoria Evtimov, who completed the race in 24.81. Registering a season-best time in the event was Taylor Thimmesch (25.63), and Angelica Refinski added a career-best outing (25.14).
 
For the men, Karsten Grundahl turned in a new personal-best outing in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 1:52.11 to finish fourth.
 
Kyril Griffin and Anthony Buford competed in the long jump, with Griffin finishing seventh with his 7.21-meter leap, and Buford ending 11th with a 6.93-meter effort. Griffin's mark currently ranks ninth in Panther history for the event.
 
In the 200-meter dash, Ty Bauschelt set a new season-best time of 21.42, crossing the finish line 13th. Zac Schmidt was the next Panther to complete the event, registering a personal-best time of 21.87. Matt Scardina also competed in the event, turning in a time of 22.25.
 
Competing in the 400-meter hurdles was Brendan Vlasak, who ended 15th with his personal-best time of 55.60. Clocking a time of 57.98 in the event was Ethan Criter.
