Track & Field Heads Back to Illinois, Local Action at Marquette This Weekend

MILWAUKEE – The Panther Track & Field program continues its third full weekend of action this outdoor season in the penultimate weekend before the Horizon League Outdoor Conference Championships.
 
Milwaukee will be heading to Champaign, Illinois for the second time in three weeks, this time to take part in the Gary Wieneke Invitational hosted by the University of Illinois. The two-day event will begin on Friday at 11:30 a.m. and resumes at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
 
In addition to the action taking place at Illinois, part of the team will also be heading to Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, and compete in the Marquette Invitational at Wisconsin Lutheran's Raabe Stadium. Field events will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Admission for both events will be free for spectators this weekend.
 
Friday Schedule
The men's hammer will kick off the Gary Wieneke Memorial with Caleb Rogalski and Finnegan Shields at 11:30 a.m. Women's hammer will follow at 12:45 p.m. with Cynthia Hernandez, Lauren Lietzke, Jamie Pankratz, and Samantha Satterfield.

Running events will kick off around 1:05 p.m. with the men's 4x100m relay with Golden Cotton, Isaac Dauffenbach, Anthony Kessler and EJ Kruse. The last scheduled running event for the Panthers is the women's 5000m run with Emily Burns, Anna Gallagher, Madison Hughes, and Meg Swietlik.
 
Saturday Schedule
The second day of competition in Illinois kicks off at 1:00 p.m. as Hernandez, Lietzke, Satterfield and Tabitha Wechlo open the day with the discus, with the start time in conjunction with the beginning of the men's shot put with  Rogalski, Shields, Tony Bretall and Jack Misky in action.
  
Saturday in Wisconsin
At Wisconsin Lutheran, Austin Wallace opens action with the shot put at 9:30 a.m., while competition will resume at 11:30 a.m. with Tony Bretall Jack Misky and Wallace will compete in the discus and Aubrie Gorski, Jada Schuh, and Kortnie Volk will start things off in the shot put.

Track events for the Panthers will start at 1:05 with Cailin Kinas in the 3000m steeplechase at 1:05 p.m., while the women's 1500m will start at 1:50 p.m. followed by the men's 1500m at approximately 2:05 p.m. The day will wrap up at 5:10 p.m. with Ian Nadolski in the 500m run.
 
Runner of the Week
On Tuesday, the Horizon League announced that senior Golden Cotton was named as Track Athlete of the Week following his dual record-setting appearance at the Gibson Invitational hosted by Indiana State last weekend.
 
Cotton set the program mark in the men's 200m dash with a time of 20.82; while tying the program mark in the 100m dash clocking in at 10.45 seconds.
 
Cotton joins Annie Guerrero, who won field athlete of the week on April 11 as Milwaukee's honorees by the Horizon League this season.
 
Top-10 Performances Last Week
In addition to Cotton's top results in the men's 100m and 200m dashes, Trevor Wenzel posted the third-best time in program history in the 10,000m run with a time of 30:42.51 at the St. MAC Relays in California on Thursday.
 
Dylan Sieloff and Evan Bartelsen also broke their way into the top-10 in the pole vault, tying for the third-best height in program history as the pair cleared 4.91 meters.

Meg Swietlik moved into seventh all-time in the women's 10,000m run with a time of 36:02.38 in California. Olivia VanZeeland moved into a tie for seventh in the high jump at the Gibson Invite with a jump of 1.68 meters.
 
Ella Laughbaum made her way into a tie for ninth in the pole vault at 3.60 meters, while Adaline Powell had a jump of 12.22 meters in the triple jump to take eighth on the all-time list. Jamie Pankratz in the hammer throw became just the sixth member of the 50m throw club as she reached 50.29 meters last week.
 
Kortnie Volk also moved into sixth all-time in the heptathlon, as she finished her seven-event two-day affair with 4622 points.
