ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Milwaukee men's track and field team competed in the first day of the Horizon League Outdoor Championships hosted by Oakland at Elaine Leigh Track & Field Complex Friday.
Heading into Saturday's action, the Panthers currently sit fourth with 11 points, trailing Youngstown St. (36 points), Purdue Fort Wayne (31 points), and Northern Kentucky (21 points).
The clear standout for the Black & Gold was
Josh Cygan in the discus throw. The sophomore took home the title for the second year in a row after his 51.76-meter effort, securing 10 points for the team.
Aiden Janke also competed in the event, registering an eighth-place outing with his 44.38-meter throw.
At the half-way point of the decathlon,
Trent Oiler holds the top spot through five events with 3387 points.
Trevor Boyer currently ranks in the Top-10, accumulating 2724 points.
Oiler finished in the top-3 of four events on Friday, securing the top spot in the 400-meter run with a season-best time of 49.44. He also finished second in both the 100-meter dash (11.35) and shot put (11.37 meters) (PR), and third in the long jump (6.29 meters). He rounded out the day with a seventh-place effort in the high jump (1.70 meters).
Boyer's top outing came in the 400-meter run where he finished sixth (53.45). His other performances including a 12.16 in the 100-meter dash, a 1.64-meter leap in the high jump, a 5.57-meter effort in the long jump, and a 9.39-meter throw in the shot put.
In the 10,000-meter run,
Zach Moss crossed the line 14th with a time of 32:14.89.
Harper Fahey and
Alex Anewenter battled in the 1500-meter run, turning in times of 3:58.96 and 4:06.00, respectively.
