Milwaukee Travels to UW-La Crosse for Final Qualifier

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee track & field teams will compete at the UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier on Thursday, May 14. The meet will be held at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wis.

Milwaukee is coming off a strong showing at the Horizon League Outdoor Championships, where the women finished runner-up and the men placed third.
 
The Panther women totaled 163.5 points, finishing just 8.5 points behind league champion Youngstown State. Milwaukee claimed two postseason honors, with Kallie Volk earning Championship Outstanding Performer/Field and Nevia Levenhagen being named Freshman of the Year/Field.
 
Levenhagen led the way with a Horizon League title in the long jump, soaring 6.12 meters to record the third-best mark in program history. Anna Szepieniec added an individual championship in the triple jump with a career-best 12.13-meter leap and also finished runner-up in both the heptathlon and 100-meter hurdles.
 
Emma Johnson captured the pole vault title with a personal-best clearance of 3.92 meters, the fourth-best mark in school history, while Olivia VanZeeland took runner-up honors in the high jump. On the track, Katie Burns placed third in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, and Victoria Spagnola finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal-best 1:01.84.
 
On the men's side, Milwaukee scored 121.5 points to secure third. Ty Bauschelt was named Horizon League Freshman of the Year/Running after a record-setting weekend, while Josh Cygan earned Championship Outstanding Performer/Field honors.
 
Bauschelt broke both the Horizon League Championship meet record and Milwaukee program record in the 400-meter dash, winning in 46.53. Zac Schmidt finished runner-up with a personal-best 47.16, and the team of Anthony Buford, Karsten Grundahl, Schmidt, and Bauschelt claimed the 4x400-meter relay title in 3:12.81.
 
Cygan successfully defended his discus title and added a runner-up finish in the hammer throw. Milwaukee also dominated the triple jump, with Bishop Bufford finishing second, Tyler Dahlie placing third, and Kyril Griffin taking fourth.

Following Thursday's competition, qualifying Panthers will turn their attention to the NCAA West Preliminary Round, hosted by Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. at John McDonnell Field May 27-30.
