MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee tennis team tallied a couple of wins at singles and earned the doubles point, but Panthers suffered a 4-3 loss to Valparaiso Saturday afternoon from Elite – River Glen.
The Panthers (5-10) took an early 1-0 advantage after winning the doubles point, but the Valparaiso Beacons (7-8) rallied and completed the comeback win in singles play.
Mayya Perova and
Avery Durham picked up their sixth win together and took care of business, serving up a 6-0 sweep over Valpo's No. 2 line, Amanda Tabanera and Demi Jhaveri. The Panthers clinched the doubles point shortly after when senior duo
Anika Tylek and
Nikki Milner won 6-3 from the No. 3 line.
In singles, the Beacons rallied back and took the first two singles matches, but senior
Mayya Perova evened the match at two-a-piece after a victory from the No. 1 singles position. Perova earned her 13
th victory after a 6-7(1), 6-2, 6-1 win over Valpo's Olivia Czerwonka.
Tied at three-all,, the match came down to last dual after
Babette Burgersdijk won 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. MKE's
Anika Tylek got off to the fast start dominating the first set 6-1, but came up short in the third set, falling 6-1, 4-6, 5-7.
This concludes non-conference play for the Panthers and the Black & Gold will turn the page to Horizon League action next weekend. Milwaukee will host IUPUI Saturday, April 2 and follow-up with a Sunday matinee against Northern Kentucky. Saturday's match will also serve as Senior Day as the Panthers celebrate
Mayya Perova,
Nikki Milner and
Anika Tylek. Both matches will begin at 1 p.m. from Elite – River Glen.
