CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Milwaukee women's tennis team started off the match strong with the doubles point but could not carry that momentum into singles action in falling to Youngstown State Saturday in the semifinals of the Horizon League Championships from the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
 
The Panthers (8-12) had defeated the Penguins (12-11) earlier this season, but the decision today marked the second straight year that YSU beat Milwaukee in the league semifinals.
 
"I am proud of the team for an amazing season," head coach Mark Goldin said. "There were lots of ups and downs, but we were always ready to compete. Congratulations to Coach Sopel and the YSU team – they are always a nice and respectful team to play and a very well-coached team. They played great tennis and were the better team today."
 
The Panthers started strong, in control from start to finish in both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, as both Nadiia Konieva and Sara Simonova (defeated Hanna Telzynska/Yoana Dudova at #1) and Laure Razet and Nel Van Hout (defeated Yeseniia Ovcharova/Line Greyling at #2) posted impressive 6-3 victories.
 
However, the Penguins completely turned the tables in singles, getting impressive straight-set decisions at each of the top four lines.
 
Razet was ahead of Greyling at No. 5 when the match went to clinch, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0.
 
That concludes the 2025-26 campaign for Milwaukee and the careers for seniors Nadiia Konieva, Laure Razet, and Sara Simonova.
