MILWAUKEE – Three members of the Milwaukee men's track and field team have been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team for the indoor season along with a pair of Honorable Mentions, the league office announced Monday.
The six student-athletes represented for the indoor season between the men's and women's teams is the second most by any school in the Horizon League.
Tony Bretall,
Josh Freitag, and
Trevor Wenzel earned the honor on the men's side while
Caleb Henry and
Gracien Jules were named as Honorable Mentions.
To be eligible for the Horizon League All-Academic team, student-athletes must participate in 50 percent of the team's overall games, completed one year at the school, and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.
Bretall earned a spot on the All-Academic Team for the second consecutive season and carries a 3.755 GPA in the classroom as a music education major. The junior finished second at the Horizon League Championships in the heptathlon for the second straight year, posting a score of 4629 points.
Freitag, who carries a 3.991 GPA as a criminal justice major, was named to the All-Academic team for the second time. The senior was one of the top runners in the 3000m for the Panthers, tallying a second-place finish at the Tierney Classic and sixth at the John Gartland Invite.
Wenzel was named to the All-Academic team in cross country this fall and collects his second straight indoor honors. The senior holds a 3.868 GPA as an engineering major and posted a fifth-place finish at the Horizon League Championships in the mile. At the Hoosier Hills Invite, Wenzel ran to a time of 8:19.30 in the 3000m, which ranks fourth in program history.
Henry was named Honorable Mention and holds a 3.598 GPA as a healthcare administration major. The junior finished fourth at the league meet in the 400m at 49.25 seconds which ranks seventh in school history.
Jules won the shot put at the Horizon League Championships and was named to the Honorable Mention team with a 3.533 GPA as a nutritional sciences major. His toss of 17.60m ranks second in program history and he also placed fourth in the weight throw at 17.14m.
