Panthers Post Strong Final Tune-Up Ahead of Horizon League Championships

URBANA-CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Milwaukee track & field teams competed in the final day of Illinois' Gary Wieneke Memorial Saturday. This meet marked the final competition date for the Panthers before the Horizon League Championships, hosted by Oakland in Rochester, Mich., May 8-10.
 
On the men's side, Anthony Buford registered a runner-up finish in the long jump, clearing an outdoor season-best 7.24 meters.
 
Ty Bauschelt recorded a monster effort in the 400-meter dash, securing third place. For the third meet in a row, he turned in a career-best effort in the event, running a 47.20. His mark currently ranks fifth in the program record books for the event.
 
For the women, Katie Burns paced Milwaukee with a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash. She crossed the line in 55.40, the second-fastest mark of her senior outdoor campaign.
 
Angelica Refinski turned in a ninth-place effort in the 100-meter dash, clocking a time of 12.23. Victoria Evtimov also competed in the event, registering a 12th-place showing (12.43).
 
Brooke Crosby and Victoria Spagnola battled in the 100-meter hurdles, both finding spots in the top-10. Crosby secured sixth with her season-best time of 14.26 (just 0.04 shy of tying her career-best effort), and Spagnola nabbed tenth with her 14.63 outing.
 
Competing in the shot put for the first time this outdoor season was Nolie Anderson, who registered an 8.51-meter throw.
 
In discus, Mercedes Hererra and Adeline Wind both cracked the top-10, throwing 37.59 meters and 33.35 meters, respectively.

The Panthers look ahead to the Horizon League Championships hosted by Oakland in Rochester, Mich., May 8-10. The meet will be held at Elaine Leigh Track & Field Complex, and will kick off Friday at 11:00 a.m. CT.
