LAKE GENEVA, Wis. – The Milwaukee tennis team finished off the weekend with a 7-0 sweep over UW-Whitewater Sunday evening from Lake Geneva Tennis.
From start to finish, the Panthers (5-8) dominated the Warhawks (12-2). The Panthers totaled four 6-0 sets and six 6-1 sets in the 7-0 sweep over UWW.
"Today was a good example of everyone keeping it simple, not over-thinking things, and just taking care of business," said Panther head coach
Jason Potthoff. "Whitewater always plays with a lot of energy and doesn't make it easy on us, so I feel really good about getting everything done in straight sets."
To kick off the dual, the Panthers gave up just seven total games in three doubles matches. Seniors
Nikki Milner and
Anika Tylek finished with a 6-0 victory from the No. 3 line, while
Greta Carbone and
Iva Stejskalova clinched the doubles point for MKE with a 6-3 win from the No. 1 line.
Mayya Perova and
Avery Durham wrapped up doubles sweep with a 6-4 win.
In singles, MKE's
Anika Tylek served up a perfect match, dominating in straight-sets, 6-0, 6-0 over UWW's Molly Rueth from the No. 5 line.
Just six games were dropped between
Mayya Perova,
Avery Durham and
Giorgia Cavestro. Each only lost two games with Perova and Cavestro finishing 6-1, 6-1 and Durham winning 6-2, 6-0.
Perova finished the weekend with back-to-back 6-1, 6-1 victories, and extends her match streak to 10. The senior star improved to 12-1 on the season.
Sophomore
Iva Stejskalova tallied the sixth point for Milwaukee with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Warhawks Gianna Nikoleit, and senior
Nikki Milner wrapped up the match with a 6-1, 7-6 (3) victory from the No. 2 line.
Milwaukee will finally finish its eight-match road stint with just a single dual scheduled for Sunday, March 20 at SIEU. First serve is set for 9 a.m. at the YMCA – Meyer Center.
