GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Milwaukee tennis team earned the doubles point, but were unable to overcome the Fighting Hawks of North Dakota falling 5-2 Saturday afternoon from the Choice Health and Fitness Center.
Milwaukee (3-6) picked up a quick point in doubles play, winning from the No. 1 and No. 2 lines and then from the No. 2 singles line, but the Fighting Hawks (7-6) came away with the team win in the end.
Sophomore duo
Greta Carbone and
Iva Stejskalova earned a 6-3 victory over North Dakota's No. 1 doubles team. With the win, Carbone and Stejskalova improved to 8-1 overall.
Paired together for the first time this season,
Mayya Perova and
Avery Durham recorded a 6-2 victory for the Panthers to clinch the doubles point.
In singles,
Mayya Perova tallied the lone singles win with a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over Andrea Jansson. Perova is off to one of her best starts in her career with an 8-1 record that includes a six-match win streak.
Next up, the Panthers will travel to the land of the corn to take on Drake and Northern Iowa beginning Saturday, March 5. Saturday's match will feature the Panthers and Bulldogs beginning at 11 a.m. (CT) from the Knapp Tennis Center, and will follow-up with a Sunday matinee in an all-Panthers matchup with Northern Iowa from the Black Hawk Tennis Club at 11 a.m. (CT).
