Seniors Come Up Big for 4-3 Win Over Warriors
Â
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Milwaukee Tennis team finally found itself on the winning side of a 4-3 dual, defeating the Wayne State University Warriors Saturday evening from the West Hills Athletics Club.
Â
Despite not winning the doubles point, the Black & Gold (3-4) made up for it in singles, winning four-of-six matches to tally a win.
Â
"That was an incredible battle by the team tonight, and we learned a lot about ourselves," said Panther head coach
Jason Potthoff. "We learned that we could drop the doubles point, go without some of our top players in singles, and grind through three-set matches even when we aren't feeling or playing our best. Credit to Wayne State, that was one of the most competitive teams I have seen in a while, and they pushed us to the very end. We've got a short turnaround to take on a tough Western Michigan team tomorrow, but I know that we will be ready to fight."

Senior
Mayya Perova moved up to the No. 1 singles line this match and continued to swing a hot racket. The Moscow native improved to 6-1 overall with a victory over Anais Ruyssen, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Â
Classmates
Nikki Milner and
Anika Tylek also picked up big-time wins for MKE. Milner and Tylek both lost the first set, but battled back the next two sets to win their match. Milner rebounded from a 3-6 deficit and win the next two sets 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), while Tylek finished 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Â
Milwaukee's
Avery Durham picked up her third career singles victory in her freshman campaign, dropping just one game, sweeping Carla Jewell, 6-1, 6-0.

The Panthers have a quick turnaround into Sunday to take on Western Michigan at 11 a.m. (CT). Live stats for the match can be viewed
