INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Milwaukee men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2022 Horizon League Championships with three events from the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
After one day of competition, the women's team sits in the third with 92 points, trailing second-place IUPUI by just five points. The men are currently in a three-way tie for fifth with 54 points.
McKenzie Sanchez's performance on the three-meter board highlighted the first day for the Panthers. Sanchez earned a runner-up finish for the second time in three years behind a score of 282.60.
Julie Rebek and
Therese Missiaen also dove for Milwaukee, finishing back-to-back in the 11th and 12th spots, respectively. Rebek finished with a score of 221.80 while Missiaen tallied 212.70 points.
The Panthers women's 200 medley relay team put together an impressive performance, finishing third. The team of
Skylar Ruggles,
Makaila Scheiblein,
Molly Meland, and
Nhia Caras touched the wall at 1:42.69, a time that now ranks as the tenth fastest in program history.
The men's 200 medley relay team placed seventh with a time of 1:32.73.

Brian Knothe,
Jacob Weber,
Ben Lorenz posted the Panthers top time in the event this season.
In the final event of the day, the women's 800 freestyle relay team reached the podium with a third-place finish. The quartet of
Bella Passamani,
Allie Buytendorp,
Sydney Dahl, and
Cassandra Hutchins posted a time of 7:28.52, which ranks seventh all-time in MKE history.
The men's 800 free team also recorded a top-10 all-time performance, finishing fifth with a time of 6:41.05. The team of
Jay Jensen,
Jonathan Kollen,
Mason Schoof, and
Andrew Innerebner now hold the seventh fastest time in school history.
Day Two of the League Championship resumes tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CST with the swimming prelims followed by diving prelims at 12 p.m. Finals of the events will begin at 4:30 p.m. and aired on ESPN+. Thursday's events include the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 free, men's one-meter diving, and 200 free relay.
