Lorenz Sets School Record in 100 Backstroke at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA, Ga. – Milwaukee swimming standout Sam Lorenz represented the Panthers at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in the 100 backstroke Friday.
 
Lorenz is the first male swimmer in program history to compete at the national meet. The sophomore automatically qualified for the NCAAs after winning the 100 backstroke with his qualifying time of 45.81 at the Horizon League Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. Lorenz also qualified for the 200 backstroke, swimming a 1:41.60 in the consolation final at the conference championship meet.
 
In the 100 backstroke prelims inside the McAuley Aquatic Center, Lorenz turned in a personal-best and school record 45.71 performance. He shaved .04 seconds off his previous lifetime best of 45.75, an effort that was set at the House of Championships Invitational on Nov. 21, 2025. Lorenz finished 33rd out of 49 athletes in the event.

Lorenz returns to NCAA Championship action when he competes in the 200 backstroke Saturday, Mar. 28 in Atlanta, Ga. The event will be streamed on ESPN+.
