MILWAUKEE – Behind an effort that saw seven individual victories, the Milwaukee women's track and field teams placed first at the Tierney Classic Saturday inside the Klotsche Center.
Milwaukee finished first at the meet with 271 points, finishing ahead of second-place Marquette who tallied 171. Wisconsin Lutheran was third with 25 points.
"It was awesome to be able to have a home meet again with friends, family, and supporters of the program," head coach
Andrew Basler said. "We had a great showing of alumni and we were able to recognize 25 seniors that poured a lot into our program. It was special to be able to recognize them in front of their family and friends."
After setting the school record in the 60m hurdles to open the season,
Natalie Block cut over a tenth of a second off her time to record a new record. The sophomore raced to a time of 8.42 seconds in the event, shattering her previous record of 8.53. Block also placed third in the long jump at 5.54m and was a part of the 4x400m relay team that finished first with a time of 3:58.17.
"
Natalie Block breaking her own school record by a tenth of a second was awesome," Basler said. "She's been working on fixing some technical things to keep dropping that time."
Maddy Troy set a new personal best in the 60m dash, placing first with a time of 7.61 seconds.
Dominique Thomas and Vanessa Laudrie finished second and third in the event, running to times of 7.69 and 7.78, respectively. Troy was also the Panthers highest finisher in the 200m dash, tallying a second-place finish with a time of 25.54 seconds.

The Panthers return to action next Saturday at the Red Hawk Invite hosted by Ripon College. Events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
"Looking forward to heading to Ripon next week," Basler said. "We get to see some competition we normally don't see but they have a great 200m track so our hope is to continue to build upon what we've been doing these last three weeks."
