Panthers Pick Up Win Over League Foe

MKE collects seven individual wins

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Milwaukee men's swim and dive team defeated Horizon League foe Green Bay on Saturday afternoon by score of 163-134 inside the Peter F. Dorschel Natatorium.
 
The Panthers finished with seven individual victories against the Phoenix, along with six runner-up finishes.
 
Jack Garcia collected a pair of individual wins for the Panthers, placing first in the 500 freestyle at 4:41.76 and 1000 free at 9:39.69. Jay Jensen finished close behind Garcia in the 500 free, finishing second with a time of 4:43.01.

In the 200 free, Jonathan Kollen placed first, touching the wall at 1:44.47. Mason Schoof followed close behind, posting a time of 1:44.88 for second. Schoof finished first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.23.
 
Zach McClellan (51.65) and John Ruan (52.87) finished in the top two spots of the 100 butterfly.
 
"We are very proud of our Panthers," head coach Kyle Clements said. "We have not had to travel and race in the same day since October, and we were impressed with the effort. We have started the transition into our championship segement of the training and are already starting to see the results of hard work. We have a way to go to get to our fastest and final form, but we are on the right track."
 
Jared Kleczka continued to post impressive marks in the diving events, collecting two individual wins. In the one-meter dive, Kleczka tallied a score of 316.13 and followed it with a score of 327.53 in the three-meter dive.
 
Other Panthers to finish runner-up included Vince Chiappetta (9:53.73) in the 1000 free, Ben Huynh (53.09) in the 100 back, and Zach McClellan (1:56.92) in the 200 fly.
 
The Milwaukee relay teams had solid days as well, collecting a pair of wins. The team of Ben Huynh, Sam Hauke, Jacob Weber, and Jensen finished with a time of 1:36.19 in the 200 medley relay while Garcia, Schoof, Andrew Innerebner, and Kollen swam to 7:04.87 in the 800 free relay.
 
The Panthers return to the pool in two weeks when they host St. Thomas on Friday, February 4. The dual begins at 5 p.m. in the Klotsche Natatorium.
