MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee men's swim and dive team returned to the pool for its first competition in 2022, falling to the University of Chicago 188-112 inside the Klotsche Natatorium Saturday afternoon.
The diving efforts were a bright spot for the Panthers, as
Jared Kleczka picked up a pair of wins in both the one-meter (315.30) and three-meter (349.80) dives. Milwaukee also collected a pair of second-place finishes in the diving events with
Adam St. John (300.15) in the one-meter and
Max Deters (285.08) in the three-meter.
Jay Jensen continued his impressive season, placing first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:48.72.
Jack Garcia finished second in the same event with a time of 9:52.60.
"We were very happy to come away with so many good results today," head coach
Kyle Clements said. "We just returned from a team training trip, and we have every excuse to swim slow, but our team is extremely resilient."
Milwaukee had several other swimmers post second-place finishes including
Jacob Weber (1:57.33) in the 200 butterfly and
John Ruan (21.77) in the 50 free. Weber earned his second runner-up finish of the day in the 100 fly with a time of 52.74.
The Panthers 400 free relay team of
Mason Schoof,
Jonathan Kollen,
Andrew Innerebner, and
Jay Jensen posted a second-place mark, touching the wall at 3:08.89.
"All of our men and women put in their best efforts, and we couldn't have been more impressed," Clements commented. "Our men and women understand that the end of the year results are our ultimate goal. Meets like these make us perform in uncomfortable situations and prepare us for our final swims of the season."
Milwaukee returns to the pool next Saturday against Green Bay for the final Horizon League dual of the regular season. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
