MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee tennis team finally returns home for competitive play as the team hosts the IUPUI Jaguars Saturday and Sunday at River Glen Elite. Both matches are set for 1 p.m., and on Saturday, the Panthers will celebrate it's three seniors,
Anna Daniel Fuentes,
Lucy Harper and
Agata Jurczak.
Last Time Out: MKE traveled to Northern Kentucky last weekend after a bye weekend and split with the Norse to move to 8-5, 1-3.
In singles,
Anna Daniel Fuentes went 2-0 on the weekend to improve to 10-3, 2-2 overall. The senior defeated Ananya Kothakota both days, 6-0, 6-2 in the first match and 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 the following day.
Freshman standout,
Greta Carbone faced two-time Horizon League Player of the Year Margita Sunjic and split with the senior stud. Sunjic best Carbone on the first day, but Carbone gave up just four games the next day beating Sunjic 6-4, 6-0.
Scouting IUPUI: The Jaguars enter the weekend 2-8, 0-4. Opening weekend against Northern Kentucky was canceled for the Norse, but in their last four matches, the Jaguars have dropped four-straight matches to Oakland and UIC.
Redshirt Junior Meghan Bernard anchors the team with a 4-4 singles record, competing primarily from the No. 4 singles line.
In doubles, the team is 9-18 overall and 3-6 in Horizon League play. The Jaguars are most successful from lines two and three with a combined record of 7-11.
By the Numbers: The Black & Gold are led by senior
Anna Daniel Fuentes and
Greta Carbone in the win column. The two are combined for a 19-6 record, with Daniel Fuentes leading the way with 10.
Celebrating the Seniors: Saturday will serve as the Panthers senior day, celebrating Daniel Fuentes,
Lucy Harper and
Agata Jurczak.
All three have been with the program (and Potthoff) the last four season and have played an important role in lifting the program back to the Black & Gold standard.
Home is Where the Heart Lies: When playing at River Glen Elite, the Panthers hold a 6-1 record, with their lone loss to Northern Illinois.
Horizon League Standings: After this weekend, the Panthers have just six remaining conference matches; UIC, Oakland and Cleveland State. This season, the Horizon League Tournament has been downsized to just four teams. Here are the current standings:
