MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee tennis team wrapped up non-conference play with a 5-2 win over UW-Whitewater Sunday afternoon from River Glen Elite.
A rematch between the Panthers and Warhawks saw similar results with the MKE Panthers coming out on top once again. The two teams met up a few weeks ago, with MKE winning 7-0 on February 14. With the win, the Panthers improve to 7-2 this season.
"This was a great way for us to end non-conference play, earning another solid win and having a chance to get everyone out there on the court for at least a doubles or a singles," said Panther head coach,
Jason Potthoff. "I think today we showed that we are a deep team who can puts wins on the board from anywhere on the roster, and we'll need that depth every week for the rest of the season. We certainly need to take some time for recovery and rest, and then later this week we'll turn our focus toward the start of Horizon League play."
Doing what they do best, the Black & Gold dropped just four games all together in doubles play for a three-match sweep over the Warhawks.
Greta Carbone and
Iva Stejskalova swept from the No. 1 line, 6-0, while
Mayya Perova and
Nikki Milner mirrored Carbone and Stejskalova with a 6-0 sweep of their own from the No. 2 line.
Anna Daniel Fuentes and
Agata Jurczak improved to a 7-2 record with a 6-4 win over Warhawk's Bethany Marshall and Kellie Ha.
In singles, junior
Anika Tylek saw her first action of the year from the No. 5 line and defeated Madalyn Bigelow, 6-1, 6-1.
After a big win yesterday over EIU,
Lucy Harper gave up just three games in her win over Bethany Marshall. Harper won 6-3, 6-0 to improve to 6-1 overall.
Nikki Milner and
Anna Daniel Fuentes wasted little time on the courts winning 6-0, 6-4 and 6-1, 6-1 to clinch the match.
