MILWAUKEE, Wis. – In another Panther vs. Panther matchup, the Milwaukee Panthers once again came out on top when the tennis team defeated Eastern Illinois 6-1 Saturday afternoon from River Glen Elite.
In the last two meetings, EIU had narrowly beaten Milwaukee, but it was the MKE Panthers who came out on top, 6-1, and improve to 6-2 overall.
"Today was one of those matches where everyone just needed to buckle down, stay focused, and take care of their court, and I'm really happy with how we executed that," said Panther head coach
Jason Potthoff. "Eastern Illinois played with a lot of fight and energy and they made us work for it. Tomorrow will be a battle as well, so we'll need the same level of focus and efficiency that we had today."
The Black & Gold jumped out to one point advantage by winning the doubles point to start the match.
Anna Daniel Fuentes and
Agata Jurczak got off the courts first, winning 6-1 over EIU's Brittany Steven and Elizaveta Bukraba-Ulanova. MKE clinched the doubles point when
Mayya Perova and
Nikki Milner beat Rachel Papavasilopoulos and Lauren Ellis, 6-4. With the win, Perova and Milner improve to 7-1 and extend their match win streak to six.
Milwaukee would go on to win five-of-six singles matches to complete the match. In four of those matches, the Panthers won in straight sets.
