Milwaukee Back Home to Host North Dakota and Northern Illinois

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee tennis team look to stay hot as they host North Dakota Saturday, February 27 and Northern Illinois the next day. Both matches are set for 1 p.m. at River Glen Elite.

Last Time Out: The Panthers extended their winning match streak to three when they beat Valparaiso on the road last Friday, 5-2.

Panthers Greta Carbone and Anna Daniel Fuentes both won their singles match to remain undefeated so far this season. Both are now 5-0 in singles play.

Iva Stejskalova and Lucy Harper also picked up wins in the singles column, defeating their Valpo opponents, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, and 6-3, 6-2, respectively.

Serving Up Awards: MKE swept this week's Horizon League awards with Greta Carbone earning Singles Player of the Week and Mayya Perova and Nikki Milner earning Doubles Team of the Week. This is a first for Carbone, and a first for Perova and Milner together.

Carbone defeated Valpo's Claire Czerwonka 7-5, 6-1, improving to a 5-0 record – including a 4-0 stat line from the No. 1 singles line.

Junior duo Perova and Milner continued their domination on the courts together as the No. 3 doubles team as they defeated their Valpo opponents 6-0. Perova and Milner have dropped just one game in their last three doubles matches, beating their opponents 18-1. Together, they own a 4-1 record.

Scouting North Dakota: The Fighting Sioux have six matches under their belts, and enter their match against the Panthers at 1-5. Their most recent loses come UIC (3-4) and Marquette (1-6).

North Dakota comes in with a 9-26 singles record with Sapir Sela leading the way splitting time between the No. 2 and No. 3 singles lines.

In doubles, the Fighting Sioux have struggled, winning just three matches, with a 3-13 record.

About Northern Illinois: NIU enters the weekend at 0-3 with loses to Notre Dame (2) and Cincinnati.

The Huskies garner a well-balanced team, and return Maria Potsi, Paula Veyhie and Christy Robinson who tenures the most experience. The three combined for a 38-26 singles record in the shortened 2020 season, while Potsi and Lara Slisko return as the No. 1 doubles team. The two combined 8-2 doubles record together.

NIU narrowly defeated the Panthers last February by a score of 4-3.

Potthoff at the Helm: Jason Potthoff enters his fourth season with the Panthers. During his time with MKE, he has amassed 27 victories, including a six match improvement following the year he arrived. In 2018, he led the Panthers back to the Horizon League Tournament after a two year absence.

Fan Update: The Horizon League Board of Directors has decided, as a part of its role of overseeing League-wide safety protocols focused on consistency and clarity for all League competition, that all indoor league sports this year will be played without fans. This policy extends to team pass lists, complimentary tickets and band/spirit squads.

Milwaukee Athletics remains committed to ensuring the health, safety and well-being of our student-athletes, our staff and the campus and the community. All decisions will be made with the guidance provided by county, state, campus and Horizon League officials. In addition, all game dates and times are subject to change based on current protocols
