VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Milwaukee tennis team improves to 4-1 with a 5-2 road win at Valparaiso Friday evening at The Courts of NWI.
In doubles, Junior duo
Mayya Perova and
Nikki Milner cruised through their match, defeating Mia Bertino and Demi Jhaveri 6-0 and put early pressure on Valparaiso. Seniors
Anna Daniel Fuentes and
Agata Jurczak clinched the doubles point for MKE with a 6-3 win from the No. 2 line.
"Tonight was the perfect example of "winning ugly," said Panther head coach
Jason Potthoff. "Lines 2 and 3 doubles won pretty comfortably and that first point was crucial. We got off to some very slow starts in singles, but fortunately we were able to pull out enough first sets to provide some breathing room. This is a very tough team who knows how to fight and compete even when they aren't playing their best tennis, and I'm proud of the way they got the job done tonight."
Freshman
Greta Carbone continued her stellar freshman campaign by adding another W from the No. 1 singles line for the Black & Gold. Carbone won in straight sets 7-5, 6-1 over Claire Czerwonka.
Meanwhile senior
Anna Daniel Fuentes remained steadfast with a victory over Mia Bertino, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. With the win, both Daniel Fuentes and Carbone continue with an undefeated singles record at 5-0.
Iva Stejskalova and
Lucy Harper picked up the other two points for Milwaukee with 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-2 wins over their opponents.
The Panthers will host it's next four matches, beginning with North Dakota and Northern Illinois next weekend, February 27-28. Both matches will be played at River Glen Elite beginning at 1 p.m.
