Milwaukee Travels to Valpo Friday

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Milwaukee tennis team hits the road Friday against Valparaiso at The Courts of NWI in Valparaiso, Ind. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: The Panthers dominated last weekend, sweeping both Northern Iowa and UW-Whitewater, 7-0.
 
In each match, the Black & Gold swept doubles play to gain the first point. Against Northern Iowa, freshmen duo Greta Carbone and Iva Stejskalova found themselves down 2-5 against Olivia Fain and Emma Carr, but rallied five-straight games for the comeback win, 7-5.
 
From the No. 3 doubles line, Mayya Perova and Nikki Milner helped the Panthers to a 2-0 weekend with dominating sweeps over their opponents. Perova and Milner allowed just one game total – winning 6-1 against Northern Iowa and 6-0 over Whitewater.
 
Scouting Valparaiso: Valpo is currently 1-3 on the 2021 season, falling to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) 7-0 in their latest match.
 
Senior Claire Czerwonka garners the most experience for Valparaiso. In singles play, Czerwonka owns 40 doubles victories with a .488 winning percentage. In singles, she has amassed 38 singles wins, competing mostly from the No. 1 line.
 
Double Trouble: The Panthers head into the weekend 9-3 overall in doubles play. Freshman Greta Carbone has been paired up with fellow classmate Iva Stejskalova, and the do have lost just one match together from the No. 1 doubles line. The Daniel Fuentes/Jurczak and Milner/Perova parings have also been steady with 3-1 records of their own.
 
The Undefeated: Both Carbone and Daniel Fuentes lead the Panthers with a 4-0 singles records. Within their undefeated record includes a singles win over their Marquette opponent. Carbone has been bumped up to the No. 1 singles position, while Daniel Fuentes has been dominate from the No. 4 line.
 
Potthoff at the Helm: Jason Potthoff enters his fourth season with the Panthers. During his time with MKE, he has amassed 27 victories, including a six match improvement following the year he arrived. In 2018, he led the Panthers back to the Horizon League Tournament after a two year absence.
 
Fan Update: The Horizon League Board of Directors has decided, as a part of its role of overseeing League-wide safety protocols focused on consistency and clarity for all League competition, that all indoor league sports this year will be played without fans. This policy extends to team pass lists, complimentary tickets and band/spirit squads.
