CLEVELAND, Ohio – Duo
Greta Carbone and
Iva Stejskalova paced the Milwaukee tennis team with two match wins in doubles play on the first day of the Cleveland State Hidden Duals.
Standing out in doubles play were
Greta Carbone and
Iva Stejskalova, who earned two wins two wins to kick off the Invite. Shortly after singles play, the sophomore duo took the courts against host CSU. Carbone and Stejskalova won 6-4 over Bethany Yauch and Selma Tounsi. The two then went toe-to-toe with Duquesne's Margot Pessy and Ana Utrilla Benito and won 7-6 (6) for a day one sweep.
Seniors
Nikki Milner and
Mayya Perova also picked up a win together in doubles over Duke's Ellen Shanahan and Blanca Benet Garcia dropping just two games for a 6-2 victory. The Panthers almost completed a doubles sweep over the Dukes, but came up short on court five where
Babette Burgersdijk and
Giorgia Cavestro were edged out, 7-5.
To kick off singles play, Milwaukee was paired up against Horizon League opponent Youngstown State. Both Carbone and Stejskalova got off to a solid start winning their first set 6-0 and 6-4, but the sophomore veterans were unable to close out the match falling in the second set and tiebreakers.
Day two of the invite begins with singles play against Cleveland State with first serve set for 9 a.m. (CT). Following singles play, the black & gold will take on Duquesne and Youngstown State in doubles play beginning at 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.
