Oakland Bests Tennis, 5-2

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Milwaukee tennis team won two-of-three in doubles play, but came up short in singles falling to Oakland Sunday evening by a score of 5-2 from Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness.

The Panthers (9-8, 2-2) continued its strong play in doubles having won the doubles point in back-to-back days, but the team struggled in singles resulting in an Oakland (9-7, 3-1) victory.

Nicole Clarke and Mayya Perova added another W to their record together defeating Ava Thielman an d Darya Maltseva 5-3, while Agatz Jurczak and Nikki Milner clinched the point winning 6-3.

"We continue to play great doubles with today being one of our most complete doubles points of the season," said head coach Jason Potthoff. "Today, we just weren't able to put away some crucial games on deuce points and that came back to bit us."

After Mayya Perova defeated Samantha Galloway 6-4, 6-2, the team took a 2-1 lead ahead of the Golden Grizzlies.

At lines one and four for the Panthers, both Alexandra Belle and Nikki Milner battled it out with their opponent pushing their match to three sets, but it was the Golden Grizzlies who prevailed in the end.

"Those two three-set matches could have gotten us to four points, but Oakland dug deep when they needed to and we didn't quite have enough of what we needed to tonight," said Pothoff. "I'm incredibly proud of the fight though, and we're excited to get back out on the courts at home next weekend."

Milwaukee will have its final two home matches of the regular season next weekend on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7. The team will face Northern Kentucky Saturday at 1 p.m. from River Glen Elite, and the match will also serve as Senior Day in celebration of Alexandra Belle. Then MKE will wrap up the weekend with Wright State with the match time slated for 1 p.m.
