Serves Up: Panthers Get Ready to Host Flames and Jaguars This Weekend

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The regular season will end at home for the Milwaukee tennis team, opening up the final stretch of the season this weekend against UIC on Sat., April 14 and IUPUI Sun., April 15 in what is a pivotal weekend for the Panthers.
 
The Panthers enter the weekend in eighth place in the Horizon League standings. The top six teams will compete in the championships at the end of April. Milwaukee needs to take care of business in its next three matches and hope for a little help above them for a playoff berth.
 
WHEN AND WHERE: Both matches are set to be played at River Glen Elite with the first match beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday against third place team UIC. The Panthers will follow-up with IUPUI the next day with a match time slated for 1 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Milwaukee traveled to Wright State and Northern Kentucky losing 6-1 to the Raiders and edged out by the Norse the following day, 3-4.
 
Anna Daniel Fuentes, Loren Nelson, Nicole Clarke and Lucy Harper picked up wins in singles on the weekend, while duo Nelson and Clarke earned a victory in doubles.
 
SCOUTING THE FLAMES: The UIC Flames are currently in third place in the Horizon League standings with an overall record of 10-6 and a 5-1 HL mark.
 
UIC lost in the opening round of the Horizon League Championships to Wright State 2-4 a season ago. The team finished with a 17-6, 8-1 record sharing the regular season Horizon League title with Youngstown State.
 
The Flames lost just one member to graduation from their title run. The team has five players with double-digit wins with Georgia Sanders, Rachel Lombre and Viktoria Seifert leading the way.
 
From the No. 1 position, the Flames have flip flopped Lejla Colic and Georgia Sanders throughout the season. Colic sits with a 5-16, 1-3 record while Sanders has taken over at the position as of late with an 11-14, 2-2 record.
 
Juniors Rachel Le Combre and Viktoria are combined for a 31-12 record from the No. 4 and 5 positions.
 
UIC have thrived in doubles play this season. Georgia Sanders and Lejla Colic have competed at the No. 1 position primarily throughout the season and come in with a 13-7 overall record and 2-1mark in league play. Rahcel Le Combre and Melika LeBlanc heed a similar record at 12-6, 4-0 from the No. 2 doubles spot.
 
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS: IUPUI enter its first season in the Horizon League with a 4-14, 0-5 mark. The former Summit League program finished 5-18, 3-3 losing in the first round of the Summit League Tournament to the University of Denver 4-0 last season.
 
Senior Valeri Lavrenchuck leads the team with an overall record of 10-11, 0-3 mark. Lavrenchuck has competed from the No. 1 singles spot primarily and has been paired up with Krystal Grubb from the No. 1 spot in doubles. Lavrenchuck and Grubbs enter the dual with an overall record of 9-3.
 
NEXT UP: MKE will host its final regular season match on Sat., April 21 against Green Bay. The match will be held at River Glen Elite beginning at 1 p.m. The day will also celebrate lone Panther senior Labina Petrovska and her career as a Panther.
