BROOKFEILD, Wis. – For the seventh time in program history, the Milwaukee tennis team and Wisconsin took the courts this evening at the Brookfield Elite Tennis Club. The Panthers dropped their third match of the season, losing 5-0 to the Badgers.
Looking to earn two points off the bat in doubles play, Milwaukee (0-3) fell just short losing both matches 6-4 and 6-2 to the Badgers (2-0). At No. 1 doubles,
Labina Petrovska and
Anna Daniel Fuentes were down two breaks and fought back within one deuce point of serving at five-all, but were unable to overcome Grambeau and Keberle.
The team was unable to earn a single's win, but continued to battle and improve. "I thought Anna played her best singles match as a Panther, and I know she's excited to get out and build on that effort on Sunday (vs. Colorado State)," said head coach
Jason Potthoff. "Despite the loss, we continue to take strides forward, and even if they're small, it's still a step in the right direction."
In singles play, Milwaukee struggled in the first set in each of their matches, but made adjustments in the second set winning at least a game, if not more.
Milwaukee's Petrovska and Lexi Keberle battled at No. 1, but Keberle earned the W at 6-1, 6-4.
At No. 6,
Lucy Harper showed improvement in her second set of singles play as well as she gained two game wins in losing effort to Christina Zordani, 6-1, -6-3.
The Panthers resume action on Sunday, Jan. 28 as they host Colorado State at River Glen Elite (Milwaukee). The Rams and Panthers are set to begin at 1 p.m.
