MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Milwaukee tennis team begins it's 2018 campaign in Omaha after a two-month break in competitive action. The spring season begins Friday against Omaha followed by a match against DePaul on Sunday.
When and Where: The Panthers begin their season on the road traveling to Omaha, Neb. for Friday's match-up against Omaha at the Miracle Hill Tennis Center beginning at 11 a.m. UWM will finish the weekend on Sunday at the Pleasant Valley Tennis & Fitness Club (Jackson, Wis.) to take on DePaul at 12 p.m.
At the Top of her Game: The lone returner and senior
Labina Petrovska enters her senior season with 91 career wins. Petrovska is a First Team All-Horizon honoree and has tallied 46 singles wins and 46 doubles victories.
First Year Head Coach Jason Potthoff: Potthoff comes to UWM after serving as an assistant at the University of Houston the past two seasons where he helped guide the Cougars to an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national ranking high of No. 38. Prior to Houston, Potthoff spent four seasons at the University of Missouri as an assistant, where he was also in charge of recruiting and on-court player development.
Opposite the Net: In 2016-17, Omaha finished with a 6-16 (2-4 Summit) record with five-of-eight players returning to the Mavericks. The team is led by senior Michelle Lo. Lo is a three-time All-Summit honoree and finished with a team leading 12-9 singles record as a junior.
DePaul recorded a 17-8 (5-2 Big East) record in 2016-17. The Blue Demons are led by senior Keisha Clousing who finished 14-10 singles record and 15-8 doubles record competing primarily at No. 2 and No. 3. Sophomore Aspasia Avgeri also played a large role in the Blue Demons success a year ago. Avgeri, a junior national champion for the Greek Junior National Team, debuted with a 24-12, 23-12 freshman campaign.
Looking Forward: UWM will replicate this week's competitive schedule next week beginning with Wisconsin on Friday, Jan. 26 and Colorado State on Sunday, Jan. 28 for their home season-opening matches.
