Panthers Head To Nationally Ranked Minnesota For Pair Of Matches

Gophers ranked 60th in the nation

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee women's tennis team is off to Minneapolis this weekend for a pair of matches, starting Saturday.

The Panthers will kick things off against No. 60 Minnesota Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Baseline Tennis Center. Fans can follow along with both live stats and a live video feed from all six courts, with links found on the schedule page at MKEPanthers.com.

Then, UWM will take on a tough South Dakota team on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Milwaukee is coming off a season-opening loss to Marquette. Despite the result, new Panther head coach Jeff Aranda feels good about how his team is doing in the early going.

"We had an awesome week of practice," Aranda said. "These women are really hard workers and we are definitely looking forward to the opportunity in front of us this weekend. Minnesota is obviously a very strong team being ranked 61st, and South Dakota is a very solid team too. The ladies are all fired up and we're looking forward to it."

New Coach
Jeff Aranda was hired as the new Milwaukee women's tennis coach earlier this year and things are already going well.

The team posted close matches throughout against Marquette in the season opener and Aranda says that effort carried over into this week's practice.

"We had a great week of practice this week," Aranda said. "I'm loving being the head coach of this team. We have great team chemistry and there are only good things ahead."

About Minnesota
Minnesota enters the weekend at 3-1 overall, including a pair of 7-0 wins over Northern Illinois and North Dakota. The Gophers lost 4-1 to Wichita State before winning 4-1 against South Alabama at last weekend's ITA Kick-Off.

U of M has won the doubles point in all four matches so far this season and is currently in the middle of the pack of the deep Big Ten conference.

About South Dakota
The Coyotes are kicking off their 2016 spring season this weekend, taking on Minnesota on Saturday following Milwaukee's match against the Gophers. The 'Yotes' finished last season with an 8-11 record and were picked to finish second in the Summit League this season, behind only two-time defending league champ Denver.

South Dakota features a very diverse roster, with no player hailing from the U.S. SD has six newcomers on this year's roster, including four freshman.
