MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team won four more singles matches and four doubles contests on day two of the Gopher Invitational Saturday.

The day was highlighted by freshman Dana Shannon advancing to the championship match of the Gopher Singles Flight with a straight-set win.

Plus, the doubles tandem of Maddy Soule and Christina Colarossi will play for third place in the top doubles flight after splitting two matches, including an 8-6 win over a tandem from Minnesota.

"Overall I'm very happy to see we were able to maintain a very high level of play for a second day in a row," Milwaukee head coach Sean McInerney said. "It's a sign of a good team and a good program and I was looking for that against this level of competition. This is a very good start and I'm excited about the kind of team we can be this season."

The run to a title match by the freshman Shannon and the play of a sophomore like Bailey also has McInerney excited.

"Chelsea is really learning how to grind and mix it up. She is going to continue to grow into being a very good player," McInerney said. "And for Dana Shannon to go 3-0 so far and beat the kind of players she is beating in her first weekend of college competition is very impressive. It is way above expectations and I am impressed with the composure she is showing in the matches."

Brittany Skemp dropped a hard-fought three-set decision in the Gopher Flight and will play for third place in the bracket Sunday. Soule will play for fifth place in the top singles flight after a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory over Julia Courter of Minnesota.

Kristin Kurer and Mary Ellen Donovan split two doubles matches, falling in the consolation bracket championship match of the Maroon Doubles Flight.
