CLEVELAND, Ohio -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped a pair of league road matches this weekend.
The Panthers (4-11, 1-3 Horizon) dropped a 5-2 decision at Youngstown State Saturday night before falling, 6-1, at Cleveland State Sunday morning.
Freshman Brittany Skemp did win both of her singles contests this weekend, while freshman Beth Ganser added a singles victory with Megan Gow and Ashley Schoneman teaming up for a doubles win.
Saturday's action with YSU saw UWM drop three hard-fought doubles contests to fall behind in the match. Then, in the top singles slot, Margarita Sadovnikova captured a 7-5 win in the first set over Kelly Drvaric before sweeping her way to the win. Kari Kastenholz then dropped a three-set contest - 7-6 in the third set - to Lauren Hankle in the number-two slot and the Penguins were well on their way to victory.
Skemp and Ganser did get UWM on the board with singles wins in the fifth and sixth slots, but it was not enough.
Against Cleveland State, Gow and Schoneman's doubles win wasn't enough for the Panthers to claim the doubles point. In singles action, Skemp claimed a straight-sets win at #5, while Kastenholz (#1) and Ganser (#6) each pushed their matches to three sets before falling.
UWM continues league play with road matches at Wright State and Butler next weekend.
