DETROIT, Mich. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team bounced back from a morning sweep against Detroit to claim a 7-0 win over Oakland University Friday night.

The Panthers (9-9, 3-3 Horizon) won all six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests against the Grizzlies in an evening match in Rochester.

Meanwhile, UWM could never get on track in its first action of the day in Southfield against league foe Detroit.

In action against Oakland (5-7), the Panthers ran the table in singles play. Five of the six wins came in straight-sets, including a 7-5, 6-0 victory for Kelly Drvaric in the number-one slot. The lone contest that was extended to three sets came at #2 singles, where Kari Kastenholz pulled out a 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 win.

The Panthers also claimed the doubles point against the Grizzlies. Kastenholz and Sammi Schoen won, 8-4, at #1 doubles while Drvaric and Megan Gow teamed up for an 8-6 win in the second slot.

In the first match of the day against the Titans (11-6, 5-1), the Panthers were unable to pull out a win in any of the nine matches. UWM's best efforts came at #2 and #3 singles. In the second slot, Kastenholz split the first two sets with Zeljka Minic before falling, 11-9, in the third set. Then in the third slot, Schoen and Aneta Maricevic split the first two sets before Maricevic claimed a 10-6 victory in the third set.

"Kari and Sammi both had nice performances in the morning, but we just didn't play at the level we needed to play at to beat a team like Detroit," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "Megan and Jenna bounced back nicely after not playing well in the morning, and overall it was a good win against Oakland. We just have to get it together a little more for our final two league matches. We'll have to play better in both of those matches if we want to have a chance to win. And, two wins would really help us peak as we head toward the league championships."

UWM wraps up the regular season portion of its schedule with a pair of matches next weekend. The Panthers are at Butler Friday before hosting Youngstown State Sunday.
