GREEN BAY, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team won the doubles point and then took four of six singles matches to claim a 5-2 win over the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Sunday in the Horizon League opener for both teams.

UWM's top three singles players all won their matches in straight-sets, while the Panthers' top doubles tandem captured an easy victory.

Milwaukee (6-6) has now knocked off Green Bay four-straight times after failing to beat the Phoenix in its first 22 attempts as a Division I program.

The Panthers claimed the doubles point after Kari Kastenholz and Kelly Drvaric captured an 8-2 win in the top spot while Green Bay defaulted midway through the match in the third position due to an injury.

Then, in singles action, UWM got off to a fast start with convincing victories in each of the first three positions. Drvaric claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win over Emily Lawent at #1, Kastenholz had a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #2 and Sammi Schoen captured a 6-2, 6-0 win at #3. The Panthers grabbed a final point when Green Bay defaulted at #6 singles.

"This was a good win. It is nice to get off to a good start in league play," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "Kelly really had a good weekend in winning both of her singles matches and her doubles match today. We seem to be a little banged up ourselves, so it will be good to get some rest over the next few weeks."

In fact, UWM has almost three full weeks off, with its next contest scheduled for March 27 against Wright State.
