MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to IPFW Sunday morning at the Paley Tennis Center.

The Panthers did collect a win at #1 doubles but could not capture the doubles point. Then, the Mastodons won five of the six singles matches to pull away.

Ashley Schoneman pulled out the lone singles victory for Milwaukee (4-6), winning a thrilling three-setter against Yuka Kobayashi in the third slot. After dropping the first set, Schoneman rallied for a 7-5 win in the second set and then claimed the third set, 7-6, winning 7-2 in a tiebreaker.

In doubles action, it was Milwaukee's top tandem of Kelly Drvaric and Kari Kastenholz that claimed UWM's lone victory. The tandem pulled out an 8-6 win over Kobayashi and Ingrid Ballus.

"We're competitive and we are playing tough, but we have to learn to finish," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "We just haven't been able to finish the big points. We also need more consistency from top to bottom in doubles. Hopefully we can get back on the winning track next weekend as we head into league play."

UWM will host Bradley in another non-league match Saturday before heading to Green Bay for its Horizon League opener Sunday.
