CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team captured five singles victories and won the doubles point to claim a 6-1 win over the University of South Dakota Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (3-2) controlled the action in doubles play and then won their five singles matches in easy sweeps. In fact, two of UWM's players didn't lose a game in their singles wins, while another lost just one game in a two-set victory.
In singles action, Ashley Schoneman claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win in the #4 slot while Jenna Felsher won by the same scores in the sixth position. Megan Gow also claimed an easy 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 singles, while Kari Kastenholz (#2) and Sammi Schoen (#3) were also victorious.
In doubles play, Schoen and Schoneman teamed up for an impressive 8-1 win in the number-two slot while Gow and Karlee Miller were equally impressive in winning, 8-2, at #3 doubles.
"We were solid from top to bottom," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "South Dakota has always been a solid Division II program and will be competitive in moving up to Division I. Their top three players were strong but we handled things to get the win."
UWM continues its weekend stay in Iowa, taking on Northern Iowa Sunday at 11 a.m.
