CLEVELAND, Ohio -
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at Cleveland State Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers (11-9, 3-2 Horizon) were swept in all six singles contest and could only pull out one of the three doubles matches.
With the loss, UWM fell back to fourth place in the league standings but remains in position for its best-ever regular season league finish.
UWM's doubles win came in the first slot, with Kari Kastenholz and Kelly Drvaric pulling out an 8-5 victory. But, the Panthers dropped the other two duals to give up the doubles point.
In singles play, Kelly Drvaric pushed her #1 singles match to three sets but fell 10-6 in the tiebreaker. Meanwhile, Kastenholz saw her string of seven-straight singles wins snapped in a 7-5, 6-3 defeat at #2 singles.
"It was a nice win that Kelly and Kari had in doubles and I felt like we had chances in three of the six singles match, so really the match was closer than the 7-0 score indicates," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "But, we need to compete better in matches against the top teams in our league. There is a lot of contrast from the top half to the bottom half of the league, and I would like to see us play more like we belong in the top half."
Milwaukee continues its road trip through Ohio Sunday, taking on Youngstown State at 10 a.m. EDT.
