MILWAUKEE - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Oklahoma Friday at Marquette.

The Sooners swept through the six singles and three doubles contests, though not without some challenges from the Panthers (3-3).

Kelly Drvaric and Kari Kastenholz fell, 8-4, at #1 doubles to Ana Maria Constantiuescu and Chelsea Orr, a tandem ranked 44th in the country. Plus, Sammi Schoen and Ashley Schoneman fought hard before falling by the same score at #2 doubles.

"I thought we played great at number one and number two doubles, but we just could not win the big points," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "We are not at a level where we can compete with teams like Oklahoma or Minnesota for an entire match, but everyone is showing bits and pieces during a match that they can compete at this level. Hopefully playing this level of competition will make us a better and more prepared team."

In singles play, Constantiuescu set the tone by living up to her #33 national ranking with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Drvaric at #1 singles. Kastenholz played solid match at #3 singles before falling, 6-1, 6-4.

"Ana Maria was, by far, the best player we have seen. Kelly made her work hard for her points, but to play at that level for an entire match was just too much," McCaskill said. "Kari continues to play well at number three. I thought she had her chances in the second set but she just could not close out the big points."

UWM returns to action in two weeks, taking on IPFW and Dayton Feb. 8 in Fort Wayne.
