MINNEAPOLIS - Sophomore Kari Kastenholz claimed a win at #3 singles but the University of Minnesota controlled the rest of the matches as the Gophers captured a 6-1 win over the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in women's tennis action Sunday.

Kastenholz downed Danielle Mousseau 7-5, 1-6 (10-8) in claiming the Panthers' lone victory on the day. Ashley Schoneman came closest to claiming another win for Milwaukee, falling in a second-set tiebreaker at #6 singles.

The Gophers are expected to finish in the upper division of the Big 10 this season and figured to be UWM's toughest test of the season.

"It was obviously a great win for Kari. Any victory over a Big 10 player of that caliber is huge," UWM head coach Matt McCaskill said. "I think we had a good weekend overall. It provided us a chance to see some great competition and I am hoping the team looks at this as a learning experience. Hopefully they can get some confidence from this and see they are capable of playing against bigger schools. Maybe they can't get the win, but they can show intensity and heart and be competitive in the match."

Things don't get any easier for the Panthers (3-2) next week, as UWM will square off with Oklahoma Friday morning in a neutral-site match at Marquette.
