MILWAUKEE - Nate DeYoung of Sherwood, Wis., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball for the Milwaukee Panthers, head coach
Scott Doffek announced today.
Â
"We are thrilled to be adding Nate to the family," Doffek said. "We feel like he has a chance to play at a very high level. It is hard to find a 6'7 frame that is athletic and loose and one that moves like a baseball player. I think he profiles really well at third base and has a chance to be a plus-defender there."
Â
DeYoung, currently a senior at Xavier High School, was named Second-Team All-Bay Conference last spring, batting .324 with 20 runs batted in.
Â
He followed that up this summer by batting .338 with the Wisconsin Panthers, knocking in 17 runs. He joins his brother, Matt, on the Milwaukee roster.
Â
"Nate is a lefthanded hitter with natural leverage," Doffek said. "As he gains strength, I think we will see his power pop. It is a short, compact swing with very loose hands in a big a frame. Just like Matt, Nate is a first-class kid with a bright future. We can't wait to get him on campus."
Â
As a freshman on the diamond, DeYoung was named Second-Team All-Eastern Valley, batting .391 with 20 RBI.
Â
He is also an all-league basketball player for the Hawks. Last season, he helped Xavier claim its first WIAA State Championship, putting up 18 points and 18 rebounds in the title game against Prescott.
