Milwaukee Set for Horizon League Championships After Strong Regular Season Finish

MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee track & field teams are set to compete at the Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Oakland in Rochester, Mich., May 8-10. The meet will take place at the Elaine Leigh Track & Field Complex and can be streamed on ESPN+, with events beginning Friday at 11:00 a.m. CT.

Milwaukee last competed at Illinois' Gary Wieneke Memorial in Urbana-Champaign, Ill., and Wisconsin's Badger Challenge in Madison, Wis.
 
On the men's side, Anthony Buford highlighted the weekend with a runner-up finish in the long jump at Illinois, recording a season-best 7.24 meters. He also clocked a career-best time of 21.98 in the 200-meter dash. Ty Bauschelt continued his standout stretch in the 400-meter dash, placing third after running a personal-best 47.20. His mark leads the Horizon League and ranks fifth in program history.
 
Josh Cygan remained dominant in the discus, while Tim Maidment, Alexander Maggit, Tyler Dahlie, and Bradyn Thomas all added season-best or top-three performances across the long jump, triple jump, and pole vault.
 
On the women's side, Katie Burns led Milwaukee on the track with a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash (55.40) and a career-best 24.31 in the 200-meter dash, ranking sixth in program history. Victoria Spagnola added a record-book performance of her own, clocking 1:01.88 in the 400-meter hurdles for the ninth-fastest mark in program history.
 
Nevia Levenhagen delivered a runner-up finish in the long jump with a career-best 5.89 meters and placed third in the triple jump. Lauren Wickus added a runner-up finish in the high jump with a career-best clearance of 1.64 meters, while Emma Johnson matched that performance in the pole vault with a 3.70-meter clearance.
 
SEASON HONORS
 
Milwaukee enters the Horizon League Championships with several athletes earning Horizon League Athlete of the Week honors throughout the outdoor season.
 
On the men's side, Milwaukee was represented multiple times in the weekly awards. Ty Bauschelt earned Runner of the Week honors on May 5 after his continued record-setting performances in the 400-meter dash. Sam Schreiber was recognized earlier in the season on March 24, while Josh Cygan earned Field Athlete of the Week honors twice (March 31 and April 28). Anthony Buford also picked up Field Athlete of the Week honors on May 5 following his strong showing in the long jump.
 
On the women's side, Natalie Block earned Runner of the Week honors twice (March 31 and April 14), while Anna Szepieniec was a two-time Field Athlete of the Week selection (April 14 and April 28) following standout performances in the jumping events. Nevia Levenhagen rounded out the group with Field Athlete of the Week recognition on May 5 after her strong showing.
