Panthers Post Career-Best Performances at Ashton May Invite

April 03, 2026

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Milwaukee men's track & field team competed at the Ashton May Invite hosted by UW-La Crosse at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex Friday.

"In less-than-ideal weather conditions, I thought the group that came to La Crosse competed well," said head coach Andrew Basler. "They did not let heavy rain and cooler temperatures deter them from giving their best effort."

The Panthers took the top two spots in the 5000-meter run, with Zach Moss securing the title in the event. Moss turned in a career-best 15:30.8, while Aidan Sosnowski finished runner-up with his 15:38.82 outing.

Also turning in career-best efforts in the 5000-meter run were Sam Blascyk and Will Perez. Blascyk recorded a time of 16:22.68, while Perez crossed the finish line in 16:23.93.

"We had a couple freshmen have solid days in the sprint races," added Basler. "Matt Scardina had his second quality weekend in the 100-meter and 200-meter. Brendan Vlasak opened his outdoor season strongly in the 110-meter hurdles. He broke 15 seconds in both the prelims and the finals."

In the 110-meter hurdles, Vlasak clocked a time of 14.94 in the prelims. In the finals, he took home a second-place finish, running a 14.91. Trevor Boyer also competed in the event, finishing seventh in the prelims with a time of 15.32.

Scardina finished in the top-five of the 200-meter dash, crossing the line with his 22.54 effort. He also qualified for the finals of the 100-meter dash with his 11.11 outing.

In the long jump, Tim Maidment recorded a 6.57-meter leap on his fourth attempt, finishing the event in sixth.

Tyler Dahlie cracked the top three in the triple jump, recording a 13.56-meter effort.

"Next week, will be traveling a small group to Duke University, with the remainder of the team staying home and competing at the Marquette Invitational," concluded Basler.
