Ames, Iowa – The Milwaukee track & field teams competed at the Iowa State Classic inside the Lied Recreation Center Friday.
Fourteen athletes, ten women and four men, represented the Panthers in the meet that featured entries from Iowa State, Iowa, Drake, and Kansas.
Anna Szepieniec stayed hot with a runner-up finish in the long jump, posting a mark of 5.84 meters. She capped off her day in dominant fashion by claiming first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.69.
Nevia Levenhagen turned in a solid outing in the long jump as well, securing sixth with her 5.30-meter leap. She also found success in the triple jump where she finished at the top of the podium, jumping 11.29 meters. The Black & Gold took the top two spots in the event with
Adaline Powell registering a jump of 10.72 meters.
In the 60-meter hurdles prelims, Szepieniec matched her indoor personal best with an 8.49 performance. She raised the bar in the finals, clocking an 8.45 to finish second overall.
Victoria Spagnola also advanced to the finals, where she delivered a personal-best 8.68 to secure a sixth-place finish.
Katie Burns turned in a third-place effort in the 200-meter dash (24.91). Burns also ended sixth out of 30 total runners in the 60-meter prelims, qualifying for the final round. In the finals of the event, Burns finished eighth with her 7.82 outing.
Burns,
Leah Handshoe, and
Taylor Thimmesch delivered standout performances in the 400-meter dash, with all three finishing inside the top 10. Burns and Handshoe each posted personal-best times, placing second (55.62) and fifth (56.55), respectively. Burns' performance now ranks third-fastest in Panther program history. Thimmesch added an eighth-place finish with her 57.56 showing.
The Panther high jumpers continue to stand out, with
Olivia VanZeeland and
Macy Woodward finishing in the top-5 of the event. VanZeeland secured second, clearing 1.68 meters, while Woodward nabbed fifth (1.63 meters).
For the Milwaukee men,
Ty Bauschelt ran the fourth-fastest 200-meter dash at the event, finishing in 22.08. He also thrived in the high jump, clearing 1.98 meters to secure fourth.
Matt Scardina raced in a loaded 60-meter dash pool, finishing 13th out of 47 total runners. The freshman clocked a time of 7.06 in the event.
Anthony Buford cracked the top-10 with his 49.58 outing in the 400-meter dash.
Zac Schmidt was right behind him, turning in a 50.03 effort.
UP NEXT
Milwaukee will compete at the Mark Guthrie Legacy Invitational in La Crosse, Wis., Saturday. The first events are scheduled to kick off at 1:00 p.m. in the Hetzel Fieldhouse.
