MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee men's track and field team competed at Grand Valley State's Big Meet Friday and DePaul's Blue Demon Alumni Classic Friday.
BIG MEET FRIDAY
"Our sprint and distance squads took full advantage of the great competition at the Big Meet Friday hosted by GVSU coming away with 13 personal records and two season bests," said assistant coach
Priscilla Schultz.
At the meet held in Allendale, Mich., inside the Kelly Family Sports Center,
Ty Bauschelt got the Panthers rolling. In the 400-meter dash, Bauschelt clocked a time of 48.49, which ranks him seventh in the Panther record books and second in the Horizon League for the event.
Anthony Buford turned in a fifth-place and career-best effort in the 200-meter dash, completing the event in 22.31.
Two Panther top-10 spots were claimed in the 800-meter dash.
Lucas Picco currently sits fourth with his personal-best 1:50.59 effort, while
Karsten Grundahl ranks ninth after his 1:52.36 performance.
Zach Moss finished first in his heat of the 5000-meter run with his 15:34.44 effort. Finishing third in his 5000-meter heat was
Aidan Sosnowski who clocked a time of 15:26.27.
The team of Buford,
Matt Scardina,
Zac Schmidt, and Bauschelt turned in a season-best outing of 3:18.19 in the 4x400 relay. This performance ranks them second in the Horizon League.
"Overall, our athletes made positive strides towards moving up in the conference rankings," added Schultz.
BLUE DEMON ALUMNI CLASSIC
"We took a small group of jumpers down to DePaul and I thought that we had a lot of positive results," said head coach
Andrew Basler.
In Chicago, Ill.,
Kyril Griffin cracked the top-10 in the long jump with his 6.57-meter mark. Teammates
Alexander Maggit and
Tim Maidment were close behind, jumping 6.49 meters and 6.47 meters, respectively.
Also securing a spot in the top-10 was
Trevor Boyer in the 60-meter hurdles. Boyer crossed the finish line in 8.70.
In the high jump,
Tyler Dahlie finished fifth, soaring over 1.90 meters.
A season-best effort was recorded by
Olu Olu-Akintomide in the triple jump. The freshman jumped 13.56 meters.
"This meet definitely gives us some great momentum heading into one more weekend of competition at our home meet before we head to the Horizon League Championships," concluded Basler.

Milwaukee will close out its regular season slate when it hosts the Panther Tune-Up Saturday, Feb. 21. The first events will kick off at 10:00 a.m. in the Klotsche Center.
