Panthers Earn Ninth at Horizon League Championships

Whiteis, Fahey lead Milwaukee

October 31, 2026

CLINTON, Pa. - The Milwaukee men's cross country team earned ninth place at the Horizon League Championships Saturday afternoon, scoring 210 points as a program.

"Heading into the championship, we were focused on moving up as a program," head coach Andrew Basler said. "Looking just at the end results, this is not where we wanted to finish. From an outsider's perspective, it may not look like there was much movement for us. Even for our own athletes, it may feel and appear there is no growth. But as coaches, we can see the big picture perspective. There is movement happening in the right direction for both our men and women, and we can hang our heads high on that fact."

For the first time this season, Will Whiteis led the pack for the Panthers. The Middleton, Wis. native covered the 8K course in 25:26.62 to place 30th.

Harper Fahey continued to show well, earning 38th place with a time of 25:38.32. Zach Moss followed closely behind, taking 44th with an 8K time of 25:45.63.

To round out the top-5, Alex Anewenter and Alex Lopez-Saucedo placed 54th and 66th, respectively.

Saturday marked the first meet that Cullen Boyle was unable to finish, as the senior had previously led each race for the Panthers.

"Our team took a big hit early with Cullen Boyle having to bow out with some health issues," Basler said. "I know he wanted nothing more than to be at his best for the team, so I feel for him. Similar to the women, our top-3 ran smart and tough races. Will Whiteis looked very strong the whole race and put everything out there. After facing a health setback at Bradley two weeks ago, Harper Fahey bounced back strong today. He was relentless in moving up through the course. Lastly, Zach Moss was engaged from the start and should be very proud of his effort."

In Pennsylvania, Youngstown State went on to secure its fifth consecutive Horizon League Championships on the men's side, tallying 32 points. IU Indy followed in second with 55, while Robert Morris earned 113 to take third on their home course.

Milwaukee will set its sights on the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, taking place Friday, Nov. 13. The meet will be hosted by Michigan State from East Lansing, Mich., as races will get underway at 9:00 a.m. CT from Forest Akers Golf Course.

"We will evaluate the health and efforts of the group this next week before deciding on our travel roster to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional," Basler said.
